Ongoing student workshop

Since 2012, WheelRoom has been offering an ongoing workshop for students interested in an in-depth exploration of ceramics, led by artists-instructors Ayelet Eliav and Uri Shapira. The workshop is an intimate and nurturing space designed for creators to develop their skills and knowledge.

At each session, we’ll provide you with personalized support. We’ll help you tackle any challenges you encounter, guide your experimentation, and assist you with your projects. This individualized approach means that you progress at your own pace, ensuring a tailored learning experience.

You have the freedom to choose your focus area based on what drives and excites you at any time. The workshop covers a wide range of ceramic techniques, from traditional potter's wheel and hand-building methods to more advanced practices such as mold making, specialized slip casting techniques, intricate sculpting with porcelain paper clay, nerikomi (color porcelain), experimental glaze research, and a variety of surface design techniques.

Week by week, you'll discover new methods, refine your craftsmanship, expand your toolkit, and cultivate a distinctive creative voice.

בכל מפגש תוכלו להתקדם עצמאית בקצב שלכם, שעה שנעבור מסטודנט לסטודנט לליווי פרטני. נציע עזרה בפתרון אתגרים, ננחה את תהליכי המחקר, ונסייע משלב הגישוש ועד לביצוע של כל פרויקט.

בכל שלב תוכלו לבחור במה להתמקד בהתאם למה שמרגש אתכם. תוכלו לצלול לכל תחום על פני הקשת הקרמית, החל מאבניים וטכניקות יסוד בפיסול, עד בניית תבניות גבס ושיטות יציקה קרמית ייחודיות, יצירת פורצלן צבעוני בנריקומי, פיסול בפורצלן פייפר קליי, חקר גלזורות ניסיוניות, ומגוון שיטות איור, צביעה ועיטור.

משבוע לשבוע, תחשפו לטכניקות חדשות, תרכשו ידע ומיומנויות, תעשירו את ארגז הכלים שלכם, ותפתחו שפה יצירתית ייחודית.

How do I sign up?

Contact us! We’ll check class availability, find a timeslot that suits you and schedule your first lesson to jump right in.

Do you offer beginner classes?

Our studio welcomes all levels. You can start anytime, choose your focus based on what drives and excites you, and progress at your own pace. Thanks to our personalized instruction, prior knowledge is not required.

Can I attend sporadically, such as every other week?

Upon joining the studio, you’ll be part of a regular group meeting weekly at a set time, and we hold your spot for it. Unfortunately, we don’t accommodate irregular attendance.

What if I can’t make my class?

If you miss a class, just let us know. You're welcome to make it up by joining another session at a later date, space permitting. We offer classes Sunday through Friday, mornings, afternoons, and evenings.

What is the cost and what is included?

Each session costs 190 NIS, covering materials, firings, glazing, and anything else you may need. We also offer a “minibar” of special materials like porcelain, flame-resistant clays, ceramic pigments and lusters. Classes are 3 hours weekly in a group setting of 10-12 participants and two instructors.

How do I choose what to work on?

You’ll find inspiration all around the studio, from your classmates working on diverse projects alongside you, to the display of our own works, and our collection of books and magazines.

How long is the workshop? Is there a minimum commitment?

There's no fixed start or end, so that you’re free to join or leave as you wish, with no mandatory period. However, please note that our processes require depth and breadth, so the workshop may not suit students looking for a brief experience of several classes only. Most of our students find their place in the studio long-term.

יש קורסי מתחילים?

הסטודיו פתוח לכל הרמות. כל אחד מצטרף בזמנו, בוחר במה להתמקד בהתאם למה שהכי בוער בו ומתקדם משם, בקצב המתאים לו. הליווי הוא פרטני ולכן אין צורך בידע מקדים בכדי להצטרף.

אפשר לבוא פעם בשבועיים או מתי שרוצים?

כשאתם מצטרפים לסטודיו אנחנו משייכים אתכם לקבוצה קבועה. השיעור שלכם מתקיים מדי שבוע באותה שעה, ובה נשמר עבורכם מקום. לכן ההשתתפות היא רציפה ולא ניתן להירשם לפעם בשבועיים.

מה עושים אם אני לא יכול להגיע לשיעור שלי?

ניתן להשלים אותו במועד אחר, רק תעדכנו אותנו מראש. פשוט מצטרפים לאחד השיעורים בסטודיו מתי שמתאים, על בסיס מקום פנוי, בנוסף לשיעור הקבוע שלכם. השיעורים מתקיימים מראשון ועד שישי בשעות הבוקר, אחר הצהריים, והערב המאוחר.

מה המחיר ומה מקבלים?

עלות כל שיעור היא 190₪. המחיר כולל חומרים, שריפות, גלזורות, וכל מה שתצטרכו. בנוסף, אנחנו מציעים גם "מיניבר" של חומרים אקזוטיים כגון פורצלן, חסיני להבה, פיגמנטים קרמיים ולאסטרים, אותם ניתן לקנות בנפרד. השיעור מתקיים במסגרת קבוצתית של 10-12 משתתפים, עם שני מדריכים, למשך 3 שעות שבועיות.

איך בוחרים על מה לעבוד?

תוכלו לשאוב השראה ברחבי הסטודיו, מחברי הקבוצה שעוברים לצדכם על פרויקטים מגוונים, מהעבודות שלנו המוצגות בוויטרינות, ומאוסף הספרים והמגזינים שלנו.

כמה זמן נמשך הקורס? יש תקופת התחייבות?

לקורס אין התחלה ואין סוף, כך שכל אחד חופשי להצטרף ולפרוש על פי בחירתו ללא תקופת התחייבות. ובכל זאת, קחו בחשבון שהתהליכים בקורס מסתעפים ומעמיקים, כך שהוא איננו מתאים למי שמחפש חוויה קצרה של שיעורים ספורים. במרבית המקרים, תלמידים מוצאים את מקומם בסטודיו לטווח ארוך.
